"Dave and his team are honest and thoughtful of their customers’ needs, making the minimum mess and tidying each day."

Dave and his extremely talented crew are hardworking, reliable and trustworthy, they always stick to the brief. Dave and his team are honest and thoughtful of their customers’ needs, making the minimum mess and tidying each day. TBJ transformed my grotty house into a chocolate box cottage. I would recommend them to anyone and would be happy to show their work to any potential customers.

"Dave makes sure his team is working efficiently and is very keen on keeping the budget under control"

I had used TBJ on 2 occasions to do some quite substantial refurbishments to my home when I decided to have a 2 storey stone extension built onto my house. This was to furnish me with a downstairs study/bedroom, toilet and stairs down to a garden room with access to 2 cellars (my house slopes to the rear). I had no problems deciding whom I wanted to do it. Indeed I don’t think I would have considered the project if I hadn’t known a builder who I could trust completely.

Various members of the team worked from November until April, in that time they only ever stopped work for one afternoon due to appalling weather. Dave makes sure his team is working efficiently and is very keen on keeping the budget under control, so the building work came in on budget, with some movement for changes that I had made.

Every member of the team was a pleasure to be with and they were very keen that the job met with my approval. Time was taken to discuss what would look best and alternatives for flooring etc.

I am delighted with the end result, thanks to all at TBJ.

"I do not have a bad word to say about TBJ and cannot recommend them highly enough..."

We originally contacted TBJ (Dave Brearley) in September 2012 to deal with some damp issues in our renovation project but I was impressed with Dave and his teams work from day one. They arrive early as promised, get straight into work without lengthy tea or fag breaks and work solidly whatever the weather. We have gone on to use TBJ consistently over the last 18 months in the full renovation project of our 17C listed building.

Dave leads his team most effectively and sets high standards, the site is always left tidy and he approaches any problem with a keen eye for design, detail and in keeping with the overall ethos of the building. He also keeps within the agreed budget and makes sure the customer is properly informed about progress and any issues that may arise.

If you want quick fix, cheap and shoddy don't go to TBJ, other trades have let us down but TBJ always deliver to budget and within timescales agreed but yet also offer that rare blend of flexibility to deal with what old buildings throw up, customers ability to change their minds and the demands of planners and inspection.

I do not have a bad word to say about TBJ and cannot recommend them highly enough. My father and brother are both builders and have been impressed by the results of using TBJ.

Basically I would trust them with any job and accept advice from Dave and his team on all building matters. We have recently given them the work on building our garden room extension and I have asked Dave to project manage the work from start to finish so that in itself is testament to our trust in their work.

"We use him for all our building projects and he has always done an excellent job"

We cannot recommend Dave Brearley at TBJ Ltd highly enough. We use him for all our building projects and he has always done an excellent job.

From replacing interior doors to re-building the kitchen, (essential in a guesthouse) and replacing filigree ornamental woodwork in the apex of the roofline whilst repairing our roof is testimony 24/7 for all to see on our 3 storey house.

"He comes when he says he will, he sticks to his price, he has high standards of workmanship and plans well- reducing costs."

Dave has worked for me over the last 2 years and has re-insulated my roof and walls.

He also built a handsome traditional oak frame in my garden. He comes when he says he will, he sticks to his price, he has high standards of workmanship and plans well- reducing costs. He minimises noise and mess, clears up properly and only leaves when the job is done.

He does not spread himself over several jobs at the same time.

"So if you’re thinking about it, I can recommend it and I can also recommend TBJ to do you an excellent job for a fair price."

TBJ fitted a Grant Spira 6-26 KW Condensing Wood Pellet Boiler for me earlier this year. The boiler is housed in my old coal cellar and an equivalent area of storage is needed for the pellets.

Previously my house was reliant on part solid fuel central heating and storage radiators. 5 years ago TBJ had fitted me a stove which ran some radiators and heated the hot water. Unless it was ‘built up’ all the time (making the lounge unbearable) it was never going to fill its 20+KW promise and heat the other radiators effectively.

In the summer of 2013 I decided to build an extension, which meant heating another small room, a shower room and a garden room. I wanted an efficient, easy to manage central heating system.

Joe Egan and Dave Brearley discussed my options with me, they were few. I have no gas; I had no outside space for an oil tank; Calor and Electricity were expensive to run; and solid fuel meant a lot of carrying fuel, which in my late 60’s I didn’t want to do. My architect had suggested supplementing my system with a heat exchanger, but I really couldn’t find enough favourable information and we decided that although quite expensive to install, the wood pellet option was my best and only real option for a comprehensive central heating system. Also, there was the RHI initiative which meant the boiler only had 5% VAT and I would get money back over the next 7 years.

Well to cut a long story short, I now have a lovely red boiler in my cellar. Alongside it stands a hopper, which in winter I possibly need to top up every other day. I am confident it would run for a week or more on a low temperature on one fill. It runs 14 radiators of varying sizes as well as heating the water. I can still light my stove and use that in my lounge (as a wood stove) which will also heat the hot water. It is all easily controlled and I love it.

Having Joe as my plumber, I count as a privilege. Cost of running: I am not sure of but it is supposed to be second in line to gas. Ease of running: I am sure of, it’s brilliant. So if you’re thinking about it, I can recommend it and I can also recommend TBJ to do you an excellent job for a fair price.
